WINTER Historical Timeline

1995

  • November 17 - First Board of Director’s founding meeting was held.

1996

  • April 1 - Incorporated as a non-profit organization
  • Awarded the first Women In Apprenticeship and Non Traditional Occupations (WANTO) grant
  • Offered the first non-traditional career exploration class for women at Abram Friedman Occupational Center

1997

  • Pre-apprenticeship preparation training program began

1998

  • Opened office in the Long Beach Plaza mall
  • Published lists of nontraditional careers with wages and career ladders

1999

  • Started “Women Build” a program to trained women in construction skills in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity-Long Beach
  • Published a Curriculum for Trainees Exploring Blue Collar Career

2004

  • Expanded services to Los Angeles residents
  • Environmental Education and Remediation - Green Jobs training program began

2005

  • Opened our 1st training facility
  • Held the first "Redefining Women's Work"fundraising event

2007

  • Opened the Rosie the Riveter Charter High School

2008

  • Opened Los Angeles office
  • Received "Organization Advancing the Status of Women" Award by Soroptimist International

2009

  • Established the WINTERGreen Employment Services

2011

  •  Established YouthBuild Program at Rosie the Riveter High School
